My independent reading book is Strider. It is about a boy and his friend who find a dog on the beach. Once they find out that they can keep the dog on an on and off basis they name him Strider. I wonder who the real owner(s) is or are and why he,she, or they left that big, poor innocent dog on the beach ALONE. I predict that one day when Strider and his new owner are taking a run on the beach they bump into the real owner. I think the real owner is the mean woman that lives downstairs from Strider’s new owner. I think this because the only animal she does not allow in her apartment is a dog.

Dear G18,
Strider looks like a very interesting book. The author was very creative of what the topic was. It must be harsh for a dog to be alone on a beach, don’t you think? Poor Strider at least he found a temporary owner to take care of him. Tell me more soon!

Dear g16,
I read more of Strider. Strider’s owner is Leigh. Leigh is keeping Strider to himself insted of sharing with Barry. Also, Barry and Leigh got in a fight over Strider. Do you think they should have done that or not and why or why not?

My independent reading book is Allie Finkles, Rules For Girls. It is so far about a girl named Allie who is moving away. She is not wanting to live because of all her friends there. I am guessing she is probably afriad of going. It reminds me of a movie called Max Keebles Big Move. His parents tell him he is moving. Since that happened he wanted to not live but at the same time get everybody bad back for what they did. Then his parents tell him he is not moving. I don’t know yet if that is going to happen in the book, but I’ll keep reading to find out. So far I like the book. My favorite part of the book is the first rule. I like it because the rule is Don’t Shove a Spatula Down Your Best Friends Throat. That’s because her was crying a lot and just wouldn’t stop, so she found a spatula and shoved down her friends throat. I like the book so far and I think it is going to be a very awesome book.

Are you embarrassed or annoyed because of your little sister? Then you might be in Beezus Quimby’s shoes.

My independent reading book is “Beezus and Ramona” by Beverly Cleary. In this book Beezus is always trying to be patient with Ramona her four year old sister, but it is really hard when Ramona throws a party for all her nursery friend without telling any one! Maybe that she can hold the anger back but not when Ramona puts one of her dolls in Beezus birthday cake and makes Beezus very upset on her very special day. She often wishes if her four-year-old sister can be like the sister her friends have. As I was reading this I thought sister’s love each other very, very much but not all the time.

As I was reading the book I had some questions.
· I wonder how my parents will react if I throw a party and only tell them at the last moment?
· When Ramona gets older and sees her self when she was young and the embarrassing she was how will she react?
· Would Ramona be doing all of this knowing that she is doing something not right?
· I wonder if Ramona is like her mother when she was small or like her father when he was young?
Overall it shows 2 sister’s life who sometimes fight but still loves each other.

Dear Class,

For my weekly reading, I read a great book called The Report Card by Andrew Clements. This book will keep your body on the edge of your seat! In this book, a fifth grade girl, Nora Rowley, with an unusual secret. Even though she received D’s and C’s on her report card, she is acually a genius!
I’m up to the part when the family and teachers are beginning to find out her true identity. Maybe, instead of her parents yelling at her because of lying for her whole life, it may be a whole new life for Nora not being shy anymore. In my opinion, I would have told everyone from the beginning.
My favorite part was when she told about of how her baby years began of hiding her secret. It was hilarious! I can’t wait until the end.

Sincerely,
G8

My book I read this week is Wayside School Is Falling Down by Louis Sachar. It is a great book about all these adventures because each chapter is a whole diffrent story. In one chapter you have to read the story backwards, in another chapter a kid is in love with his teacher. It is so freaky! Even though its a creepy book it is a good book too, and I would recommend it.

I read Wayside School I Falling Down too. I think it is a pretty good book. It is all together a great book about funny things. I liked how each chapter was a different story. It made the book interesting. I would recomend it too. A funny thing that happened to me was that while I was reading the chapter that was backwards I started reading it fowards and got really confused. Finally I figured out that it was the backwards chapter.

I have been reading a book called The Girls Book, How to be Good at Everything.I like the book a lot. It tells how you can do a lot of things such as, how to whistle really loudly or how you can actually make a crystal. In the beginning there is one where if your late to school you have many excuses running up your sleve. I will probably use the one or two good ones. So far I like the book, but I wonder if everything really works?

Over the week I read a book called “Jenius The Amazing Guinia Pig.”
The book is about a little girl how had two guinia pigs, a boy and a girl. They had a baby, so when the little girl went to feed her guinia pigs she saw the dazzling, cute, little baby with his parents. The little girl was shocked she had an idea but she never thought it would happen.
Her idea was to make this little guinia pig into a pet that could do tricks. Like to sit, play dead and to flip a ball into the air!!This was her dream and thats why she named him Jenius!
She taught him the tricks and he understood what she was saying! So when she brought him in show and tell the kids crowding around him and made him scared. So when the girl told him to do a trick he just stood there.Every one laughed at the little girl, because she said her guinia pig can do tricks and lots of them too. But after a long day a happy ending appears!

Dear class,
This week I am reading Diary Of A Wimpy Kid Rodrick Rules. It is a story about a boy named Greg Heffley who has these crazy situations he is dealing with. To let all of his feelings out, Greg writes his incredible stories in a diary. The main part about this book is that his life may get worse if he doesn’t get his older brother Rodrick on his nerves or else…
When I began to read Diary Of A Wimpy Kid, already, I was on the edge of my seat. I could never stop reading it!
One of the funny situations Greg got himself into was when he got in trouble by insulting Rowley’s Dad. ( Rowley is Greg’s BEST friend).

This week I read the book THE TALENTED CLEMENTINE by Sara
Pennypacker. In this book Clementine’s school has a fund raiser and the third and fourth graders are having a talent show for the fund raiser but the problem is that Clementine has no real talent (according to her!).
Clementine went though lot of troubles finding her talent. The night of the show she told the teachers that she did not have any talent. She sat next to the teachers until the teacher had to leave because her daughter was having a baby. Clementine was told to take her place. After taking the teacher’s place she actually managed the show good and even helped some people on stage. Over all Clementine found that being herself is the best talent one can have.
As I was reading the story I think Sara Pennypacker had a message that a true talent is being yourself and that is the greatest talent you can ever ask for. You do not need to ask, you have it!

This week I read polar bears and the artic again. But first before I tell you any thing I want to answer some off G8 questions. Yes in fact I do like polar bears and the artic. Also I would NEVER be able to stand that weather. All right back to the book. I didn’t know this book would have sooooo much imformation. I learned so much from this exellent book. Here are some interesting facts,
1. It is cold in the artic for 3 reasons. One is the sun rays can’t travel that far. Second the snow’s light colars reflect the sun’s rays back into space. Third the ice and snow are so cold they cool the sky above the land
2. The sun does not set for 2 months in the summer this is called land of the midnight sun.
3. In the fall and spring skies in the north often light up with beautiful blue, green, red, and violet lights. We call these lights northern lights. The northern lights happen when energy particles from the sun hit the air far above the earth. These particles collide with gases that surround the earth.
4. The Antarctica ice is one mile thick
5. The lowest temperature was 128.6 BELOW zero.
If you want to find MORE imformation read my blog next week!

It is about a girl named Junie B, she loses a tooth by bitting her grandpas finger just because he was going to wiggle the tooth. When she bites it something very susupoicus falls right into her hand.IT’S HER TOOTH! She runs to her bathroom and tries to wash the germs out. But that does not work, she makes it start bleeding! But at the end, everything is fine.

Dear Class,
This week I continued reading Diary Of A Wimpy Kid and finished it. The ending in my opinion was very interesting. In the end, Greg Heffley’s HUGE secret finally spilled by his mean brother Rodrick. His secret was when he wanted to tear up his secret journal and flush them down the toilet so Rodrick won’t try to steal it. But when Greg goes to the bathroom it was actually the the WOMEN’S bathroom! OOPS! Now I know why it’s called Rodrick Rules.
All in all, my favorite parts throughout the whole book was seeing what he has done for school projects. Unfortunetly, they weren’t excpecting the work he has done. Poor Greg.

G8

Dear Class,
This week for my weekly reading I read the book “Girls Don’t Have Cooties” by Nancy Krulik and illustrated by John and Wendy.
In this book Suzanne Lock is having a sleepover for only girls and Katie accidentally spills it out to Jeramy Fox. He gets really mad that it is a girls only party. He tells all the boys what the girls are doing and the boys get mad at the girls for having a sleepover just for girls. The boys pretend to spray cans to make fun of the girls telling that the girls have cooties and becomes a huge fight between boys and girls.

To wrap it up Katie and Jeremy came up with a club named BUG that stands for Boys Unite with Girls and that club was better then the girls club and boys club!

As I was reading the book I was thinking why they are having a huge fight just because of one silly sleepover for girls. I mean why couldn’t the boys just have a boys only sleepover?. (Any way it is a book and it has to have a problem.)

It is a good book because it has funny rules that are also good to live by. If Allie moved without a problem her mom would get her a kitty. Allie gets into some sticky sitchuations and in the end her room turns out nice and she likes the house alot( even though she doesn’t get her kitty) I recommend this book to all of my friends.

Dear Class,
This week I’m reading a non -fiction biography about HARRY HOUDINI, one of the most famous and most daring magicians of all time. The book provides you with so much important information so you have to keep track of almost everything!
Did you know that Harry Houdini used to have a “brother” ( friend) that used to to do magic shows with him to earn money called the Brothers Houdini ?
My favorite part in his life was when he used a box with a visual locked panel for the audience to see, along with a locked SECRET panel for Houdini to escape out of with the use of the key to unlock the secret panel. Guess what happened? Houdini forgot that key in the dressing room! They ended opening the visual front panel so Houdini can get out. That unfortunate event cost him to lose some money and respect from people.
The reason why I chose this book is because I’m a big fan of magic. In fact, I know a few tricks already. My parents gave me magic artifacts, magic video, and manual to practice on. My favorite magicians are David Copperfield, Penn & Teller, Criss Angel, and David Blaine.

Sincerely,
G8

Dear Class,

This week I read the book “The Amazing days of Abbey Hayes Something never change” by Anne Mazer.

In this book Abbey’s ex-best friend Jessica (Jessy) is coming from her father’s house for a visit. That is just fine except when she came she looked like a whole new person or a teenager! Then another problem comes in hand. There is a talent show and Abby does not know what to do because her friend already had an act and her closest friend will not even tell what they are doing.

When this book come to the end she finds out that Jessy is the same ordinary person like Abbey. The talent Abbey’s friend did for the show… nope I will not tell you, you must find out for yourself.

As I was reading it reminded me of “The Talented Clementine “ because of the talent show.

During this week, I have been continuing Maeve on the Red Carpet. When it is the first day of camp, Maeve realizes that her brother is supposed to be visiting his other family members in stead of going to the camp with Maeve! She then asks her parents what happened. They said that he just could not go. So that is why Maeve and her brother are going to the camp together. Her dad tells her to go from the front of the trailer and then the dad goes from from the back of the stage. Maeve wants to know why she can not go from the back. Her dad thinks that the other kids will get jealous. So Maeve and her brother go from the front. When they start making the film, at the back of the stage is also another reason why Maeve could not go, because the Donut Kings daughter is there, and only the crew knows. While filming, she pops out of no where! From that day on, Maeve’s little brother keeps filming every single step she takes. If you ask me, I am glad that I’m not Maeve. Next week I will tell you more of the story.

Dear Class,

This week I read the book “Diary Of A Wimpy Kid ” by Jeff Kinney. In this “novel in cartoons” Greg is in middle school and he is writing
a “journal” about his feelings in middle school. In this book all crazy types of stuff happens. There is something called the cheese and who ever touches it will have the cheese touch, and some kids who had it had to even move out of the state!

My favorite part of this story was Christmas when Greg’s younger brother want everything in the toy catalog he gets all of the thing in the catalog and all Greg got was a red sweater and a brand new weight set!
To wrap it up this book was filled with laughs and I will recommend this to any one who likes humorous books.

This week I read one of the BEST books I’ve ever read of all time. It is called the Secret Garden. It’s about a girl Mary who moves to England miserably because of her parents died in India. In the beginning she cries over and over, but soon her life begins to change. When she meets her long lost cousin Collin which also has the same attitude as Mary, knows a secret door led to a secret garden. Unfortunetly, they don’t have the key to get in there. At the end, they find the key and makes the abandoned garden a beautiful place!
My favorite part was when they Collin, the gardener for the mansion, and Mary together and ‘heal’ the garden again. By this, Mary turned into a loving, caring, joyful person instead of an evil, miserable, child with anger issues. This book is recommended for people who enjoy peaceful, happy, and fixing up stories.
