Ask your child about:

-How they made bread and what ingredients they used
-The shapes they used to make a Scarecrow
-Handprint turkeys
-Making a cornucopia
-Playing the math counting game “In the Dog House”
-Creating “List” stories in Writing Workshop (Classroom List, Birthday List, Vacation List)
-The letter Bb
-Starting word study groups (sorting letters/pictures/words)
-Mystery reader

 

November 9th Talking Points

Ask your child about:

-Estimating popcorn for the letter Pp
-Learning to sing and dance to the song Macarena Months
-Participating in the read aloud activity for If You Give A Pancake, followed by eating pancakes and sketching a pig (for the letter Pp).
-Continuing our Color Book (ask me what colors I wrote and illustrated)
-Reading nonfiction scholastic newspapers for Guided Reading
-Celebrating 4 birthdays!
-Learning how to use the SMARTBoard daily to complete a “morning challenge” activity during our morning routines
-Creating a pumpkin glyph (Based on questions the kids are asked, they have to design their pumpkin a certain way.  For example, if they have ever eaten a caramel apple, they color the stem brown.)

November 4th Talking Points

Ask your child about:

-The walk-a-thon and what songs we danced to
-The Halloween Party (food, music, pin the nose on the pumpkin, hot pumpkin, decorating our pumpkins)
-Meeting with our third grade buddy class to make a Spookley Pumpkin basket (after reading “The Spookley Square Pumpkin” book)
-Starting our Color Book (identifying, writing, and illustrating color words)
-Reading “The Biggest Pumpkin Ever” By Steven Kroll
-Writing and illustrating what job we want to have when we grow up for the letter “Jj”
-Publishing a story in Writing Workshop (coloring sketches and adding a cover)
-Our writing celebration:  Sharing aloud our published stories to the class
