Ask your child about:

-The winter party!
-The Cougar Studios Movie called A Cambridge Carol
-Science assembly
-Learning about Christmas traditions including decorating and tasting gingerbread cookies
-Comparing and contrasting different versions of The Gingerbread Man.
-Making winter handprint trees with paint and sugar
-Understanding the meaning of tens and ones place (ex – 64 is made up of 6 ten frames and 4 ones).
-Using a checklist to revise our writing stories
-Publishing our “How To” stories in writing workshop

December 14th Talking Points

Ask your child about:

-Hanukkah facts (menorah, 8 days, the “helper candle”, Star of David, latkes)
-Reading Hanukkah books such as The Magic Dreidel, Runaway Latkes, and The Chanukkah Guest
-Trying Peyton’s grandmother’s delicious latkes with applesauce!
-Singing the dreidel song from YouTube
-Playing the dreidel game
-Retelling The Gingerbread Boy book
-Measuring ourselves to see how many gingerbread men/women tall we are
-Creating patterns in math and converting them to letters/numbers
-Using colored cubes to make pattern “trains” and identifying how many “cars” are in each train
-When reading books, students learned they can solve an unknown word by looking at the picture and the first letter of a word
-Mystery reader!
-Holiday shop

-Making “book to self connections” during reading workshop
-Adding surprise endings to our pattern books in writing workshop
-Using a checklist to edit and publish one of our pattern books
-Adding spaces next to our words using a “spaceman”
-Adding a period or exclamation point to the end of our sentences
-Learning about Kwanzaa through books, YouTube videos, memory game, and more
-Making patterns in math and labeling with letters and numbers such as (155155 or JKLJKL)
