Ask your child about:

-Completing the end of year math test. The students did very well and scores will be provided on the final report card. I’m beginning to do final assessments for math and literacy as we speak.
-Solving subtraction story problems and creating their own
-What makes something living vs nonliving (grows, breathes, eats).
-Identifying the parts of a plant and their purpose (roots, stem, leaves, flowers, fruit/vegetable)
-Continuing “small moment” stories in writing workshop
-Mystery reader

May 10th Talking Points

Ask your child about:

-Solving basic subtraction problems using multiple strategies (drawing a picture, using a number line, using fingers)
-Solving addition and subtraction story problems by writing the matching equation
-Math yearly review of coins, sorting, more/less, counting objects, reading 10 frames, graphs, etc.
-New writing unit called Small Moments where children are writing stories using transitional words such as, “One day, first, next, then, all of a sudden, in the end, finally…”
-Rereading a sentence/word when we don’t comprehend it
-Identifying character traits in books (adjectives)
-Mother’s Day plant sale
-Mystery reader
-Our grass is growing very tall as we begin our study of plants!
