Orchestra next week

Friday, January 27th, 2012

Hi Everyone,

Congratulations to most of you for finishing your midterm/playing tests! I’m sure it has been a stressful week for many of you, so hopefully you can look forward to relaxing a little bit this weekend. I have a few reminders for the upcoming week.

- You are all expected to bring instruments to your first class next week!

- Let’s not forget about Durango Tango (string orchestra) and the rest of the Holberg (Chamber orchestra). Get a head start on practicing this weekend.

- ¬†Quartets are meeting every thursday. You are expected to attend every week (even if it’s after another club).

I have a video that Kristen H shared with me. I think it’s pretty cool. Check it out and enjoy the weekend!

Chamber Orchestra Audition Recordings

Thursday, January 12th, 2012

For anyone who is auditioning for next year’s Chamber Orchestra, audition sign up will take place in your first classes next week. They will take place on January 24th, 26th and 27th. I’m attaching recordings of each audition piece so that you have an idea about tempo and style of each piece. Don’t forget that you can use an online metronome if you don’t have one of your own to use at home. Remember that all scales should be played with separate bows at a speed of a quarter note=120.

String Quartets

Wednesday, January 4th, 2012

Hi Everyone,

Due to a high number of conflicts and the shortened school week, string quartets will begin next Thursday (1/12). The groups have all been formed and repertoire will be distributed during class.

Can you hear the difference between a multi-million dollar Stradivarius violin and a brand new violin?

Follow this link to take the test and see if you fared better than the professional violinists! You can also listen to the story by following this link. Good luck and ask me how I did in class!
