Welcome Back!

Thursday, August 12th, 2010

I hope everyone has had a relaxing summer. I have lots of great music planned for you this year!

Your first assignment was to log on to this site and book mark it. Congratulations, you found it! Next you must fill out a student information form with your parents. This will improve communications between home and school, helping you to keep current on all events, and requirements for Concert Choir and Vocal Ensemble.

Please click on the link listed under “BLOGROLL” on the right side of this page. The link is titled “Student Information Form”. Accurately fill out the form, then hit the “submit” button. Please remember to set up your email spam folder to allow mail from sbschools.org.

A list of new Vocal Ensemble members have been published in a previous post on June 22, 2010. If your name is not listed, your ensemble is called “Concert Choir” in the online information survey. If you were in Vocal Ensemble in 7th grade, choose both ensembles.

All students will be individually screened for voice placements during AP (2:26-3:05), the week of September 13-17th, 2010. Regularly scheduled rehearsals begin on September 20th.

I will post more information and activities on this site as the year progresses.

The Blue Bird Practice Tracks

Tuesday, March 30th, 2010

We need to learn this one quick. There are only about six weeks of practice left. You can practice at home by clicking on your voice part. Once you are solid on your part, try it with the full practice track.

I have altered the original arrangement to meet the needs of our boy’s voices, so please follow my arrangement.

Blue Bird Full Tracks

Tuesday, March 30th, 2010

It was too much memory I guess, so I had to post a separate one for this.

The Blue Bird

Tuesday, March 23rd, 2010

Click on the link to listen to and see this music. Vocal Ensemble will start my arrangement of this piece when we return from spring break. This performance is exactly what we want to sound like.

Never Gonna Sit Down 2/19

Wednesday, February 24th, 2010

Here is our recording from rehearsal. Not bad for February. Make comments on things that should be fixed. Obviously the sopranos need to sing more in tune (not go sharp) especially at about 1:48 and at the end. What can they do so they don’t push sharp? Also, what about the dynamics? Should our tempo be a little faster than this? What words/vowel sounds are spread? How about beginning and ending consonants? Can our audience understand the text? How is the tuning? What about blend/balance? Do you hear individual voices? No mention of names please!!!

The Pasture

Monday, May 4th, 2009

Listen to the recording from 5/1/09 and comment on what we can do better.  Pay extra attention to vowel and consonant sounds.  What words are good?  Which ones need more work?

Going Over Home 5/1/09

Monday, May 4th, 2009

Listen to how each “performer” phrases the vocal line.  Which do you like best? Why?
